A tea set, dinner plates, or drinking cups will make a fantastic addition to the dinner table. Postcards, key chains, T-shirts, magnets and tote bags imprinted with slogans, cartoons and photos are great for sharing with friends and coworkers. Dolls dressed in traditional Bulgarian clothes are found throughout the countryside, and can be carved from wood or sewn from cloth. Woodworked toys, boxes and statues, tatted lace, hand knit sweaters and scarves, and jewelry fill the marketplaces. A world famous souvenir from the Republic of Bulgaria is rose oil. The Rose Valley of Bulgaria is famous for the acres of roses that fill it, and oil is used in perfumes, cosmetics and lotions to be shipped internationally. You can pick up the products in unique containers and tins.
The Bulgarian Landscape
Bulgaria is a beautiful country, with vast landscapes that beg to be discovered. Situated on the Black Sea, it shares borders with Macedonia, Turkey, Greece, Romania and Serbia. The landscapes are a majestic mix of valleys, mountains, gorges, plateaus, plains, hills and basins within a relatively small landmass of around 110, 000 sq. km, about the size of Iceland. You may enjoy skiing in the Alps or Balkan mountains, sun bathing on the seacoast, or a pleasant stroll in the Rose Valley. There are many forested areas that would be perfect for an afternoon hike, or you may just wish to enjoy a cosmopolitan evening in the capital city, after a long day of historical sightseeing. The famous Danube River flows through the northern stretch of the country, and there are countless other rivers throughout Bulgaria that provide hydro-electric power and irrigation for agriculture. Underground mineral springs are also quite populous, resulting in many spa towns to visit.
