History of Hawa Mahal
The Palace of Winds is the embodiment of Rajputana architectural; Sawai Pratap Singh built it with the aim of keeping the women of the royal family away from the eyes of the local people. It was a tradition in the Rajput family that strangers should not see the women, yet they wanted to be in touch with the day-to-day events on the streets. Therefore, the palace was built within the city, right next to the main street and a large number of windows were installed so that the women are able to view the activities on the streets.
It is also said that Sawai Pratap was a very keen follower of Lord Krishna and he especially got the palace designed like the crown of his Lord. Five stories were made in a pyramid shape and were painted lime and crimson just like the colors of the crown.
