The City of Columbus

The city of Columbus, Ohio is a metropolitan city, which encompasses several counties. Columbus is the fifth largest city in United States of America. Portions of Delaware County and Fairfield County fall under its purview. The city is named after the great explorer, Christopher Columbus. In 1816, Columbus assumed its role as the state capital. According to 2010 census, Columbus was the most populated city in Ohio. The city has a diverse economy based on education, finance, fashion, medicine and technology. The world's largest private research and development foundation, Battle Memorial Institute, is located in Columbus. It is also home to the world's largest fractional ownership jet aircraft fleet, Net Jet. In 2011, the city included five corporations, U.S. Fortune 500, National Mutual Insurance Company, American Electric Power and Limited Brands. In 2012, Columbus was ranked among the 50 best cities in America by Business Week.
