Description

The New Jersey Transit Through Jersey City, New Jersey is the Theme of This Souvenir Fridge Magnet

As part of the Greater New York metropolitan area, Northern New Jersey has a wealth of transportation options to satisfy the commuter, tourist and train buff alike. This image shows the New Jersey Transit Light Rail as it passes through Jersey City on the Hudson-Bergen line. The NJ Transit system integrates buses, light rail and commuter rail and connect the Garden State's towns and cities to the metropolitan centers of New York and Philadelphia. The Hudson-Bergen Line runs for twenty miles parallel to the Hudson River with a major stop at Hoboken Terminal. From here it is easy to connect to Newark International Airport, the state capital of Trenton or Rutgers University in the central part of the state. Other light rail lines include the Newark City Subway and the River Line from Trenton to Camden.

New Jersey's Most Famous Rail Line is the PATH to Manhattan

Passengers on the Hudson-Bergen Line who stop at Hoboken Terminal have the option of transfering to another train system which is co-operated by New York and New Jersey through the Port Authority Trans-Hudson or PATH train. The PATH system connects the New Jersey cities of Newark, Harrison, Jersey City and Hoboken directly to Manhattan using a system of primarily subterranean tunnels similar to the New York Subway - which it connects to. This system requires that the PATH run under the Hudson River, something it does not through tunnels as is often assumed, but instead through cast-iron tubes laid on the bottom of the river. This system has weathered many problems, including closure after the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center (a PATH station laid directly under the Twin Towers) and massive flooding caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
