Description

This Acrylic Fridge Magnet Shows the Titans of Minneapolis, Minnesota: the City's Skyscrapers

While outsiders do not often think of Minneapolis as a financial and commercial center, the buildings featured on this fridge magnet would show them the error of their ways. The blue glass-covered tower that seems to open like the petals of a flower at its top is the IDS Center, the tallest building in the state of Minnesota at fifty-seven stories and 792 feet. When it was completed in 1972, it surpassed its neighbor, the Foshay Tower. This classic white tower was completed in 1929, the same time as the Empire State Building in New York and was designed in the same Art Deco style. The building rises 607 feet and was designed to echo the famous monolithic obelisk Washington Monument in Washington, DC. In the upper righthand corner of the magnet, the top of the third-tallest building in the city, the Wells Fargo Center, is visible.

Enjoying Food and Drink in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minneapolis and St. Paul have a growing and diverse food culture. One area of tremendous expansion in the past few years has been in beer brewing. The region's rich Northern European heritage and fertile connection to the grain-growing heartland of the country has paid off in a wide variety of beers on tap. In Minneapolis alone, one can visit the: Bards Beer Company, 612 Brew, Boom Island Brewing Company, Finnegans, Fulton Brewing Company, Harriet Brewing, Indeed Brewing Company, and Northgate. Meanwhile, across the water in St. Paul the Blue Diamond Brewing Company, Flat Earth Brewing Company, Pig's Eye Bewing Company, St. Croix Brewing Company, Summit Brewing Company, Theodore Fyten Brewing Company, and the Vine Park Brewing Company. In the area of food, the city hosts restaurants from many local ethnic groups, especially Germans, Scandinavians, Polish, Southeast Asians, Somalis and Latinos.
