Wilmington Rodney Square - A Piece of History

Rodney Square is a community square located at 1001 N. Market Street in downtown Wilmington in the state of Delaware, United States. The square is named after American Revolutionary leader Caesar Rodney. He was a lawyer by profession and an officer of the Delaware militia during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. The large statue of Caesar Rodney riding a horse is one of the prime attractions of the Rodney Square. The statue was sculpted by famous American sculptor James Edward Kelly who specialized in depicting people and events of American wars. This acrylic fridge magnet with the Wilmington Rodney Square view is a perfect souvenir to gift or keep at home.

More about the Rodney Square

The Rodney Square was built during the 1920s by John Jacob Raskob, the builder of the famous Empire State Building. Raskob was also a businessman for famous companies like DuPont and General Motors. The square is located in the center of Wilmington with Caesar Rodney's statue as the centerpiece. The main inspiration for building the square was for the 'City Beautiful Movement', when old buildings were demolished and new buildings were constructed around it that reflected the rising global, business and industrial importance of Wilmington. Presently, various events take place in the square like Clifford Brown Jazz Festival that is held annually during the month of June; Saint Patrick's Day Parade during the month of March and Caesar Rodney Half Marathon of 21 kilometers.
