A Fitting Souvenir from a Visit to the Pelican State

Louisiana is a state with any nicknames, including the Pelican State, Child of the Mississippi, the Bayou State, the Sugar State and Sportsman's Paradise. Whichever your favorite Louisiana nickname, the welcome sign demonstrates the overall friendliness of the people who call the Pelican State their home, and shown here on this Worldwide Gifts Fridge Magnet the welcome sign is a great souvenir from Louisiana.

There are lots of great reasons to visit this lovely southern U.S. state, from enjoying its natural beauty and outdoor activities to soaking up the good-times atmosphere of the capital city of New Orleans and its French Quarter. From football games to Mardi Gras, it's always "Laissez bon temps rulez!" in Louisiana (Let the good times roll!)

Good Times in Louisiana

Starting with the reason this state earned the nickname, "Sportsman's Paradise," one of the best reasons to visit Louisiana is for its fishing and hunting. Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River are flowing with excellent seafood, and you haven't tried good cooking until you've tasted one of the state's famous Creole dishes. The fish is blackened, the shrimp is hot and spicy, and crawfish are served up by dumping a steaming potful onto a newspaper-covered tabletop.

New Orleans also provides many outstanding historical and cultural attractions for visitors who stroll through the French Quarter listening to strains of jazz music played by enterprising street musicians. Jackson Square is filled with artists, and you can taste those iconic beignets at a riverfront open-air cafe. Don't miss the Audubon Zoo, and if you're lucky you can catch a Saints game in the world famous Mercedes-Benz Superdome. If you visit during Mardi Gras, you can see the whole city come out to dance and party in the streets!
