Description

Acrylic Fridge Magnet Featuring The Coal Canyon In Arizona

Coal Canyon lies at the edge of the one hundred and twenty mile wide Painted Desert in the northeast Arizona desert. It is known more for its interesting colours and structures than for its size; it does not have the same vast expanse as places such as Monument Valley. Its array of colours can be seen quite clearly on this attractive acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts. The bright red colours are the result of shale being partially burnt by the coal layers lying below. It is the intricate layers of colour which mainly attract visitors to this hidden away and hardly signposted gem of the desert.

Visiting The Beauty Of The Coal Canyon In Arizona

Although Coal Canyon is somewhat hidden in the desert it is still popular with visitors who can gain access to the site via a dirt road which leaves highway 264. Access, although somewhat of a bumpy ride, is relatively easy for all vehicles except during heavy rain when the road can be become muddy. The view across, and several hundred feet down into, the canyon are breath taking. The area is popular for hiking although the trails do not cover large areas as the sides of the canyon are steep and the top layer of rock is crumbly. The hiking routes are only along the rim of the canyon as, since 2009, any descent has been prohibited by the Navajo Nation. Whether to hike, or just to take in the view, this eye catching site on the border of Navajo and Hopi territory is a very popular visitor attraction. Its attraction is displayed to great effect on our acrylic fridge magnet.
