The Cuckoo Clock Comes from Germany

The interesting thing about this travel souvenir from Germany is that despite being a small souvenir item, it offers the viewer plenty to look at. It offers the idea of a model set which your eyes can really dig into. And while it may not tell the time, it will surely capture the imagination of whoever gives it a careful look. Cuckoo clocks are built by small artisans and shops located in the region known as the Black Forest.

The Mystery of the Cuckoo Clock

It is not clear who made the first cuckoo clock. For sure, it was a clockmaker in the Dark Forest. Some say that is was the creation of two men from Furtwangen who copied a clock that they bought from a merchant they met on a road. Their clock was replicated by other clockmakers from the Black Forest. However, other versions explain that Franz Anton Ketterer authored the first cuckoo clock in the early Eighteenth century. Perhaps, this is the most popular story that locales tell tourists. From that time on, even though the internal mechanism of the clock has remained unchanged, its appearance slightly changed over the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. However, lately some German clockmakers have introduced a flat and more geometrical version of the clock. All in all, this is a great travel souvenir to take back home.
