Different rulers ruled over Toledo after that including Banu Qasi and Abd-ar Rahman III. After the Arab rule ended, Toledo was ruled by the Christians under the leadership of Alfonso VI of Castile. The city started flourishing under Alfonso's rule and many improvements were made to it. However, its importance started dwindling when the Spanish court was shifted to Valladolid and later to Madrid.
