Description

The Imposing Government Palace of Lima

The Government Palace is the official dwelling and office of the President of Peru. This imposing palace nestles on the banks of River Rimac, the major waterway of Lima. It occupies the north side of the Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor, which is the central square of Lima. The palace faces the San Cristobal Hill, the highest point of the city. The Government Palace of Peru is also famously known as House of Pizarro, since it was built by Francisco Pizarro, the Governor of New Castile. The palace was erected over a large Indian burying ground Waka that used to host a shrine of Taulichusco, an Indian chief. However, the present structure of the palace was erected during the 20th century. The Government Palace has been designed exquisitely following the style of the grandiloquent French Baroque architecture. It is indeed an ideal way to buy an acrylic fridge magnet souvenir of the Government Palace in Peru to treasure the memories of your rewarding trip of Peru.

Government Palace - A Significant Historical Monument

The Government Palace of Peru was built under the patronage of Francisco Pizarro, the Governor of New Castile. The palace suffered immense damage for a number of times, owing to natural calamities and destruction caused by fire. It has been rebuilt, remodeled and restored for several times. However, the final construction work of the palace during the 1930s offers this impressive structure an elegance and beauty like never before. The Government Palace is a chief attraction for visitors touring Peru. Once you get inside the palace, you will be enthralled with the beautiful patios, the wonderfully decorated lounge, the stunning entrance hall and many other treasures of about 500 years old depicting the history of Lima.
