The Coat of Arms of Mexico and the Foundation of an Empire
Souvenirs don't get more Mexican than this. It is not only a coat of arms, but it tells the story of the Mexican people and how the Aztecs first settled in what today is the capital city. This is a great rendition of the heart of the Mexican flag and uses a variety of colors in a lovely way. In fact, this travel souvenir from Mexico refers to the story about the foundation not only of the city but of the Aztec Empire.
The Story of the Aztecs
The coat of arms is based on an old emblem of the Aztecs who made Mexico City, Tenochtitlan, and the capital of their empire that covered an immense territory during the Fourteenth and Fifteenth centuries. We can see an eagle catching and devouring a snake on a rock in the middle of water. According to their beliefs, this was the sign for the Aztecs that the valley of Mexico City, Tenochtitlan as it was named by the Aztecs, was the place where they were bound to build their empire. They were migrating from the North, from a mythical place called Aztlan, that some experts situate in Nayarit and others further North in New Mexico, United States. The Mexican country is a proud one because there seems to be a complete picture of the culture to live for and be hopeful for great times. This is a great travel souvenir to take back home and share some of the Aztecs glorious times with family and friends.
