Lake Ohrid sits astride the mountainous border between eastern Albania and southwestern Macedonia. Geography of the Lake

Lake Ohrid is a very deep lake with its deepest point at 940 feet and it has an average depth of 508 ft. The lake is spread over an area of 138 square miles and it contains approximately more than 55.4 km2 of water. It is around 30.4 km long and has a width of 14.8 km. Of the total area of Lake Ohrid, about 248 km2 of it lies in the Republic of Macedonia and around 110 km2 is resting in Albania.

Fauna found in Lake Ohrid

Lake Ohrid is a colossal ecosystem containing species ranging from diverse sorts of phytoplankton to the different kinds of predatory fish and many unique creatures. Around twenty species of algae and phytoplankton including Cyclotella fotti, five species of zooplankton including Cyclops ochridanus, eight kinds of cyprinid fish for instance the Pachychilon pictus, two types of trout fish and one hundred and seventy six species of other aquatic living organisms like sponges, mollusks, planarians and crustaceans, live in Lake Ohrid. The high content of oxygen in this lake promotes the survival of these creatures.
