Souvenirs from Uruguay
Visitors to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay find that the many industries within the country produce excellent quality products, perfect as a Uruguayan souvenir. Cattle are big business, and leather goods can be had for excellent prices, such as top quality jackets, belts, wallets and purses. Mining operations bring up semi-precious gemstones, such as topaz, quartz and amethyst, to be set in gold or silver, or tumbled into shining beads for less formal necklaces. Agates, plain looking rocks with beautiful interiors are sliced and polished, and sold as bookends and other decorative pieces. The forests are used to create wooden items, like toys, furniture, and carved statues, and hold medicinal herbs, used to treat everything from joint aches to cancer. Football, also referred to as soccer, is a popular past time, and memorabilia from matches and tournaments can be excellent for a sports fan. Magnets and key chains also make great souvenirs from Uruguay.
Cities of Uruguay
Uruguay offers many delightful experiences for tourists, pehaps the best of which are smaller towns where you can enjoy an authentic meal or market. Colonia del Sacramento is full of cobblestone streets and historic buildings. Set on a river, you can take a short walk up the lighthouse to see a spectacular view of the area, or take a romantic stroll along the shoreline. Salto is another lovely destination, known for its hot springs and beautiful landscaping. There is a nice zoo within the city limits, with over 150 different animal species. Once you're ready for some fun in the sun, Punta Del Diablo is a rustic and relaxed beach village that entertains thousands every summer. If you prefer a more urbane experience, Punta del Este offers an active nightlife and sexy beaches. Those who like to go celebrity spotting will be quite pleased at the famous faces who vacation here.
