This Fridge Magnet Souvenir Shows the Cityscape of Portland, Oregon
This acrylic fridge magnet shows the downtown district of Oregon's largest city: Portland. The beautiful full-color shot was taken from the east bank of the Willamette River and features the Hawthorne Bridge. Located at the meeting of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, Portland is known as the "City of Bridges," and has over two dozen crossings of the river including the graceful St. John's suspension bridge, whose towers appear like the belltowers of Gothic cathedrals, and historic structures like the Broadway Bridge. The magnet also features the city's seal, which features an image of "Portlandia," a woman bearing a trident standing before a riverbank. Portlandia has, more recently, been the theme of a large copper statue of the same name - the second-largest of its type in the nation after the Statue of Liberty - bending down to offer a hand of welcome to visitors to the city.
Portland's Sites Have a Lot to Offer Tourists
Portland is an increasingly popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists, which can be seen in the growing number of souvenirs - like this magnet - featuring the city. Much of what is appealing about the city is due to its strong artistic culture, with numerous art galleries in the Pearl District and the Portland Art Museum. Other popular destinations include the Lan Su Chinese Gardens in Chinatown, Powell's City of Books (said to be the largest independent bookstore in the United States) in the Pearl District, and the annual Rose Festival and Brewers Festival - celebrating the city's twin nicknames as the "City of Roses" and "Beertown." Many visitors enjoy the city's bikeability and its rich variety of cuisines, excellent coffee and tremendous variety of craft beers.
