A Breathtaking Image from America's Most Visited National Park
This spectacular photo was taken beside the Big Creek Trail in the North Carolina section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, just across the border from Tennessee. The beautiful Worldwide Gifts fridge magnet photo shows a gorgeous 45' waterfall tumbling down stacks of granite boulders in a picturesque section of Mouse Creek. It's a picture that is certainly a lovely image to take home as a souvenir from North Carolina, and if you have the opportunity to visit Mouse Creek Falls in person, you'll also capture some lovely memories.
This isn't a roadside scenic view locale, however. If you want to see Mouse Creek Falls for yourself, you need to be prepared for a four mile round trip hike from the Big Creek Trailhead to the falls. It is certainly a hike in a spectacularly beautiful location with plenty of interesting scenery along the way, including one special spot known as Midnight Hole, a deep, tranquil pool at the bottom of a six foot waterfall.
Mouse Creek Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains of NC
These picturesque falls are definitely worth the hour long hike to reach them. There's a nice shady bench just off the trail where you can relax and enjoy the view of the sparkling waters tumbling down the mountainside amidst the vibrant greenery of the surrounding forests. You can rest here before embarking on the return journey, and just listen to the sound of falling water, feel the mist rising from the falls, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
One important note of caution, the rocks around the falls are not only covered in moss and lichen but are also wet from the water spraying down, creating a very slippery surface. This is not somewhere you want to climb on the rocks to get closer to the waterfall, so enjoy the view from a little distance for safety's sake.
