Intriguing Image from New Mexico
This souvenir from United States presents an image that is very lively yet it seems quite humble at the same time. One very nice thing is that it is open to interpretation. Pieces like these are collected by many people all over the world and with good reason. For instance, it is easy to recognize that it encourages a return to nature that promotes the natural world as being harmonious. The way that it is presented on rock also makes this magnet quite decorative and can help make your kitchen all the more homey. This piece is part of collection of art work that Ernest Thompson Seton, a New Mexico based scholar and philanthropist, assembled during his lifetime. He was deeply intrigued by the Native Americans' cultures which he studied and disseminated among the Americans.
Who was Ernest Thompson Seton?
Originally from Canada, Ernest Thompson Seton was a nature lover and connoisseur who helped found the Boys Scouts of America. He wrote several books celebrating the relationship between men and nature which he studied extensively. This attracted the attention of Lord Baden-Powell, the Scouting's founder, who contacted him with his plans. Seton had its own experience in organizing young people as he had designed Woodcraft Indians which served as a model for the future youth organization.
Seton was the Boys Scouts of America first chief and during his administration, he concentrated in providing this organization with its defining elements which he borrowed from Indian traditions. This information, which included symbols, rites, organizational designs, and patterns of leadership, was compiled and included in the Boy Sout Handbook which Seton authored. All in all, this is a great souvenir to take back home, especially, if you have little ones interested in joining the Boy Scouts.
