This Souvenir Fridge Magnet Has a Scene of the Heart of Downtown Omaha, Nebraska
Omaha is Nebraska's largest city and its Downtown neighborhood is the theme of this acrylic fridge magnet. This image shows several of Downtown's major buildings including the First National Bank Tower and its neighbor, the somewhat smaller Woodmen Tower (headquarters of the Woodmen of the World mutual society). Also visible is the Qwest/Century Link Center, where the trials for the 2008 and 2012 US Olympic swimming team were held. While not visible in this picture, Downtown is also home to the Old Market neighborhood, a restored historic district with brick streets, covered sidewalks and horse-drawn carriages. Its restaurants, art galleries and swanky shopping bring in both visitors and locals. Fans of local beer will enjoy the city's three independent breweries: Upstream Brewing Company in West Omaha, Rock Bottom Brewery and the Jaipur Brewhouse.
Front and Center in This Magnet is the Impressive First National Bank Tower, the Tallest Building in Nebraska
Rising six hundred, thirty four feet (193 meters), the forty-five story First National Bank tower is the tallest structure in Nebraska and dominates the landscape of Omaha. The building was completed in 2002 and was constructed by the locally-based Kiewit Corporation. The tower is built in an art-deco revival style reminiscent of the great skyscrapers of New York. The complex also includes the First National Bank Park, a public art display space across the street. The Tower's owner and most important tenant is the First National Bank of Omaha. Owned entirely by the Lauritzen family since its founding, First National is one of the nation's largest privately-owned banks. Its subsidiaries include First National Bank of Colorado, First National Bank of Kansas and First National Bank of South Dakota. It is believed to have over $17 billion in managed assets and over 5,000 employees, making it a cornerstone of the Omaha economy.
