This Acrylic Fridge Magnet Features St. Louis, Missouri's Jefferson National Expansion Memorial

This lovely upright black and white fridge magnet shows three elements of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri: the Old Courthouse, the Gateway Arch and the surrounding gardens, including a fountain and statue. Of course, the most famous of these elements of the Memorial is the Gateway Arch, a stainless steel arch which rises to 630 feet (192 meters) above the Mississippi River and was opened to the public in 1967. Since that time, it has become an unmistakable icon of the city of St. Louis as well as a memorial dedicated to the nation's 19th century westward expansion. At the base of the monument is a subterranean visitor's center and the Museum of Westward Expansion. Nearby, also within the Memorial, is the Old Courthouse, a historic structure which long served as the region's federal court.

Beyond the Arch: Things to Do and See in St. Louis, Missouri

Undoubtedly, the Gateway Arch is the city's most prominent and famous tourist attraction and appears on all types of souvenirs from the city. Sports fans can see the city's home teams - the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, the St. Louis Rams in professional American football and the St. Louis Blues hockey team. In the Roman Catholic Cathedral Basilica of St Louis visitors encounter the world's largest mosaic. The city is known for its musical culture as well, and has been a rich center for the development of several uniquely North American styles including blues, ragtime and jazz. The city also has developed its own unique flavors, such as the Gerber sandwich, gooey butter cake, the St. Paul sandwich (a fusion of Chinese cuisine and the American tradition of the sandwich) and St. Louis-style pizza (which uses thin crusts and the locally-produced Provel cheese).
