Memorial Union in Focus
If visiting the University of Missouri, Memorial Union is the best place to gather with students or professors. University authorities thought the place as a monument to remember the soldiers who were students or had graduated from the university and died in World War I. The building dates from 1923 when construction started. At that time, it was clear that the university needed a common space where students could meet after class and this new building provided this opportunity as soon as it was completed in 1926.
The building underwent additions and renovations. The first addition was planned in 1930 and, due to financial shortcomings, it was completed in 1952. Other wings were added in 1959 and 1963. The names of the two World Wars heroes are still present in the union as they are inscribed on the walls of the archway and in a plaque. Thus, students and professors proudly pay respect to the men who gave their lives for the sake of freedom. This is a great travel souvenir to take back home to share your views on the American spirit.
