The Promise of Another Day
This magnet souvenir from United States features one of those images that just transports you to no just another place, but state of mind. Upon gazing one can't help but wonder when and by whom it was built. Some certain aesthetics feel timeless and this is a great example of such notions. The orange of the sky even seems to compliment the orange brick layout conjuring images of morning birds and the promise of another day making its way from and to the horizon. Or the nostalgic ambience of sunset when people feel like remembering old times. And this is quite applicable to this site as the lighthouse was a cherished landmark that threw its light into the dark. This is what this souvenir of Split Rock House Lighthouse shares with the visitor.
The Lighthouse in Details
For decades, Split Rock Lighthouse served navigators in Lake Superior. It was built after a huge storm caused the shipwreck of 29 vessels in 1905. Now, the site has been transformed into a state where visitors can see the tower that is still standing as well as the buildings where the oil was stored and the keepers lived.
Due to its historical value, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places in the second half of the Twentieth century, and declared a National Historical Landmark in 2011.
Its importance has also been acknowledged by the United States Postal Service when a stamp with its image was available for sale in 1995. Other lighthouses such as Spectacle Reef Light, St. Joseph Light and Thirty Mile Point Light were also depicted on other stamps that same year. If you want to see it in full, just watch 2013 film Gatsby where the Lighthouse serves as a location displaying its beauty. This is a great travel souvenir to take back home.
