Portland Head Light In Cape Elizabeth, Maine Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet
The serenity of the scene around Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine is perfectly captured in this picture on an acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts. Portland Light itself is the responsibility of the United States Coastguard, but the former keepers house and the area around the light, are run by the town of Cape Elizabeth. The town, which is in Cumberland County, has a population of approximately nine thousand people.
Cape Elizabeth In Maine
Cape Elizabeth is a relatively prosperous town in Cumberland County, Maine. When John Smith explored and mapped the New England area in 1615 he named most of the places based on names already used by Native Americans. When he presented the map to King Charles I he said that the king could choose to rename places if he so wished. One of the names which King Charles I put in place was that of Cape Elizabeth which he named after his sister, Elizabeth of Bohemia. Cape Elizabeth continued to grow and it became a town in 1765. The town still has a charm about it, and is set in picturesque surroundings including the Spurwink River which rise in Cape Elizabeth and flows to its mouth on the Atlantic Ocean. There are many pleasant to view sights in Cape Elizabeth including the Portland Head Light as pictured on our attractive acrylic fridge magnet.
