The Vast Landscape Of Craters Of The Moon National Park In Idaho, Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet

The landscape of Craters of the Moon National Park in Idaho is incredible and could probably best be described as weird, in a good and never to be forgotten way. The area was created by eruptions and lava flow which began fifteen thousand years ago and took place over eight eruptive periods. The park is situated over a total area of approximately fifty three thousand five hundred acres on the northern rim of the Snake River Plain. The area was given National Monument status by President Calvin Coolidge on 2 May 1924 and the area of inclusion was increased in 2000 by President Bill Clinton. This strangely beautiful environment is captured on this acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts.

Visiting The Craters Of The Moon National Park In Idaho

There are various trails and viewing points in the Craters of the Moon National Park, all of which are reachable from the visitor's centre which is located at the only entrance to the park. There are displays to see at this centre, together with a short film about the area. During the summer months rangers are available to conduct guided tours. Guided or not there are plenty of paths and trails to take from this point. One of the shorter paths, which is paved and a quarter of a mile long, crosses the North Crater Lava flow. This flow is one of the newest in the area having been formed approximately two thousand two hundred years ago. For those wanting to travel a little further there is a seven mile long loop drive from which the local flora and fauna can be seen and hiking trails can be accessed. The unusual landscape, as pictured on our attractive acrylic fridge magnet, is definitely a sight never to be forgotten.
