The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range In Yosemite National Park, California Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet
The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range is an impressive sight. The entire range is four hundred miles long and runs across the states of Nevada and California. The picture on this colourful acrylic fridge magnet, from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts, shows the section of the range within Yosemite National Park in California. This area has been protected for many years. Yosemite Valley was first protected by federal government in 1864 and an Act of Congress protected the entire park from 1890 onwards. The protection of the area has continued through the years including the creation of twenty wilderness area following the Wilderness Act of 1964. These are areas which remain undeveloped and where humans can merely visit and not remain. As a result much natural beauty is retained.
The Yosemite National Park Area Of The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range
The Yosemite National Park is one of the most diverse areas of the Sierra Nevada for flora and fauna. Of seven thousand plant species which exist in California, approximately fifty per cent of them are in the Sierra Nevada with twenty per cent being in Yosemite. There are approximately one hundred and sixty rare plant species in the area. The mixed habitats of coniferous trees, pine and fir along Yosemite's western boundary are home to many different animals. The American black bear, bobcat, grey fox, and spotted owl are amongst the range of animals as well as several species of bat. Higher in elevation, as the pine trees prevail, species such as the golden-mantled ground squirrel and northern goshawk exist. The animals and plants of the area add to the beauty of the Yosemite National Park area of the Sierra Nevada as pictured on our attractive acrylic fridge magnet.
