The Modern Architecture Of San Francisco, California Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet

San Francisco is a vibrant and cultural city in California and is known for its diverse architecture. The picture on this acrylic fridge magnet, from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts, shows a blue building, one of the more modern structures in the city. There are many other modern structures in San Francisco; the numerous architects office present attest to this. The California Academy of Sciences is one such building. Although the Academy was founded in 1853, its current housing was opened in 2008. Designed by Renzo Piano the building has an environmentally friendly design. Its features include the facility to recycle rainwater and the use of natural light in ninety per cent of its area. A modern building which combines the old with the new is The Contemporary Jewish Museum. Daniel Libeskind designed the new museum in which a large, dark blue, stainless steel cube slices into the brickwork of the old Jessie Street Power Substation which was designed by Willis Polk. There is plenty of tradition and history in San Francisco but it is the modern day which is captured in this picture of a new building on our attractive acrylic fridge magnet.

The Incredible Variety Of Architecture In San Francisco, California

San Francisco is a city of diversity. This is perfectly displayed in its variety of architectural styles. Structurally one of the most famous sights in the city is not a building but a street or part of a street to be more specific. The one way section of Lombard Street, on Russian Hill, is well known the world over for its zigzag pattern. The construction was actually done out of necessity due to the danger of the steep incline of the hill but is has become one of San Francisco's most famous landmarks. This famous thoroughfare has been the subject of many a photograph and has also featured on screen such as in the Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal movie 'What's Up Doc'. San Francisco has many beautiful and interesting structures, represented by a modern day blue building on our colourful acrylic fridge magnet.
