Description

Sundial Bridge In Redding California Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet

Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, the Sundial Bridge is an impressive sight as it spans the Sacramento River. Completed in 2004 the structure not only allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river it is also a huge sundial; hence the name. Made from steel, glass, and granite the bridge links the north and south campuses of The Turtle Bay Exploration Park. People crossing the bridge can often see boats passing below carrying fishermen in their quest to catch salmon and trout. The bridge is not only a fantastic piece of engineering but is also a beautiful piece of architecture as can be seen on this attractive acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts.

The Turtle Bay Exploration Park, Redding, California

The Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding, California exists to help educate people about their environment. As well as supporting wildlife conservation programmes the Park has its own resident animals some of which cannot survive in the wild, such as Aerea, a red tailed hawk, who is blind in one eye. The Paul Bunyan Forest Camp is home to these animals where younger visitors can learn about the relationships between animals and humans. The Exploration Park exhibits, and teaches, about, flora as well as fauna. It is home to twenty acre botanical gardens with Mediterranean climate displays and the two hundred acre McConnell Arboretum. The history of the area is present in The Monolith. This structure once formed the foundation of the building where gravel was processed for the building of the local Shasta Dam. It has been preserved as an important piece of history. As visitors traverse the Park they cross the Sacramento River via Sundial Bridge as depicted on our lovely acrylic fridge magnet.
