Description

The Beauty Of Cathedral Peak In Yosemite National Park, California, Pictured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet

Cathedral Peak has a majestic beauty that is perfectly captured on this acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts. Part of the Cathedral Range, an offshoot of the Sierra Nevada, the peak is popular with climbers. The most popular route for ascent is the South East Buttress. At weekends there can be queues to climb this route and it is busy even on weekdays. The name of this attractive peak comes from its cathedral like shape which was formed by glacial activity.

The Majestic Peaks Of Yosemite National Park

Cathedral Peak is not the only peak in Yosemite National Park. Matterhorn Peak is situated at the Northern Boundary of the Park and is named after The Matterhorn in The Alps. It is 12,279 feet in height and is the tallest peak in the Sawtooth Ridge part of the Sierra Nevada. Several other peaks help to form the Sierra Nevada, including Mount Gibbs and Mount Dana. The former is a 12,779 foot high peak which was named after Harvard professor Oliver Gibbs and is positioned on the border of Yosemite National Park and Inyo National Forest. The latter is a 13,061 foot high peak on the Eastern edge of Yosemite and was named after James Dwight Dana, a professor at Yale. The tallest peak in Yosemite is Mount Lyell; 13,120 feet in height, it also has the largest glaciers in the park. This peak is situated at the southeast end of the Cathedral Range which of course also contains the awe inspiring Cathedral Peak as pictured on our attractive acrylic fridge magnet.
