The Giant California Tree Pictured On An Attractive Acrylic Fridge Magnet
The California Tree is a giant sequoia which stands in Mariposa Grove at the southernmost point of Yosemite National Park. As can be seen on this acrylic fridge magnet, from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts, the tree has a tunnel carved through it. The tunnel was cut in 1895 to allow carriages to pass through, and as an act of publicity. Today this tree is the only one living that has a tunnel cut through it in this way. The California tree is far from being the only giant sequoia in the park; there are approximately five hundred such trees in the Mariposa Grove alone. Visitors cannot fail to be impressed by the imposing nature of these trees which you can get a feel for from the picture on our attractive fridge magnet.
The Giant Sequoia Trees Of Yosemite National Park
There are several giant sequoia tree groves in Yosemite National Park, the largest of which is Mariposa Grove. The trees in this area include two of the thirty largest giant sequoias in the world. The oldest, and biggest, tree in the park is the Grizzly giant which is between one thousand nine hundred, and two thousand five hundred years old. This impressive tree stands two hundred and ten feet high and has a volume of 34,010 cubic feet. It is their volume that makes the sequoia trees possibly the largest living things on earth; there are trees which are taller or wider but not both. During the summer months at Yosemite visitors can drive to Mariposa Grove and chose to hike further through the trees if they wish. In the winter, the road is closed and the only way to see the giant wonders is by hiking, skiing, or using snowshoes. From the impressive picture on our acrylic fridge magnet it can be seen that the California Tree is well worth seeing at any time of year.
