A 'Dune' At The Wave In Arizona State, Depicted On A Delightful Acrylic Fridge Magnet

Although most definitely hard sandstone rock now, the impressive troughs and peaks of The Wave in Arizona where formed when sand dunes were buried underground and compressed. This acrylic fridge magnet, from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts, shows one of these 'dunes' in all its glory. Since the sandstone was raised back and reappeared on the surface of the earth, four to five million years ago, nature has helped to shape the sight that can be seen today. Past waters, and the winds of the desert have eroded the stone, which has become embedded with other minerals, making The Wave a popular sight to see and photograph. Our acrylic fridge magnet perfectly captures this amazing place set against the striking blue Arizona sky.

The History And Artistry Of The Wave, In Arizona

Approximately 170 million years ago sand covered the area where The Wave now is. The sand dunes were eventually buried underground and remained that way for over 100 million years, being compressed over all that time. Between four and five million years ago the now solid sandstone again came to the surface where it has since been shaped by nature giving us the amazing sight that exists today. Because of its incredible, and unusual, beauty The Wave is very popular as a subject of photography. This has particularly been the case since it was featured in the German documentary 'Faszination Natur - Seven Seasons', in 2004. The shapes and colours make fascinating subjects; one such subject being the fascinating multi coloured stripes, called Liesegang bands, which flow through the structures. The appeal of this incredible place can be perfectly understood when looking at the picture on our colourful acrylic fridge magnet.
