A City as a Dream
In many ways, San Sebastian looks very much like a paradise, or even a dream. It even has a oasis feel to it. It should then come as no surprise that many people would love to bring to their home a piece of their vacation often times look for something like this. Colorful, with beaches and adorned by lush green vegetation. The interesting thing about this souvenir from Spain, however, is that most people who visit San Sebastian probably did much more than hang out by the water. It has a thriving cultural scene and people from spain and from other countries know about it and enjoy it.
It is all about Film
San Sebastian hosts one of the most renown film festivals in the world, San Sebastian International Film Festival. Annually, celebrities, famous filmmakers, independent directors, emergent producers come together to view new films and do business, Here, many distribution deals are met. Also, the festival has an educational component as there are workshops where emerging filmmakers can hone their negotiating skills to sell a new project, a finished film or to have it finished. Filmmakers from Spain and from Europe and specially from Latin America consider it a great honor to be included in the schedule of films, and it is not easy to be selected.
San Sebastian also is home to other festivals. Some worth mentioning include San Sebastian Jazz Festival, also called Jazzaldia, Street Cinema which takes place in the streets and celebrates urban culture, the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Surfilfilm Festival which features only short films. Well, you can always spend some time on the beach, yes, after you made a good deal. If you are a great film fan, this is by far a great travel souvenir to take back home.
