Description

Resin Fridge Magnet of Nerja, Spain

Nerja is a small municipality located on the Costa del Sol situated in the Malaga province in Andalusia in the south of Spain. The town was known as Narixa when the town was governed by the Muslim rulers. The name Narixa means 'plentiful or abundant source.' Nerja has an elaborate and interesting history and is one of the highlights of Malaga. The resin fridge magnet shown above displays a picture of a pretty boat and is a fitting and a lovely souvenir of the municipality as boats are frequently used by the people there to commute from one place to another.

The Nerja Caves

The history of the town was discovered by the paintings excavated from the caves of the city that are also known as 'Nerja caves.' The Nerja caves also serve as the entrance to the mountains situated between Granada and Nerja. These caves hold numerous interesting remains of the residents of the town and are of special interest to the archaeologists. Aside from attracting the archaeologists and the historians, these caves are loved by tourists too. A good time to visit these caves would be during the noon so you can easily view all the remains in daylight. Other highlights of the city include 'Balcon of Europe', the 'Baroque Hermitage of las Angustias', the 'El Salvador church', Maro- a village within the city and the aqueduct constructed during the nineteenth century.

Nerja- A Town for Writers

Nerja is also famous for being a source of inspiration for numerous artists, novelists and writers. Several expatriate writers settled in Nerja so they could write unique and exciting stories including well-known Scottish novelist Joan Lingard and author Andre Launay. Apart from being used by authors to create exciting stories, Nerja was also used for the filming of Spanish television drama, 'Verano azul.'
