Here is Another Great Travel Souvenir from Spain: The Bullfighter

One of the oldest traditions is Spain is the spectacle of the bullfight, and one of the most highly revered professions is that of the Torero, the Maestro of the Bullfight. This colorful Worldwide fridge magnet depicts the colorfully costumed torero with his cape held in preparation for taunting the stampeding bull. Seeing a bullfight is one of the most sought after attractions for tourists in Spain, although it is also one of the most controversial activities because of the treatment the bull receives during the contest.

During a traditional Spanish bullfight, or corrida de toro, there is a primary bullfighter and several secondary toreros who assist in the performance. The flamboyant costume is part of the show, and is also designed to attract the attention of the bull with its flashing gold sequins and braiding and its bright magenta color. The torero's costume is called a trajes de luces, a suit of lights, because it is so shiny and bright.

Where to See a Bullfight in Spain

There are major events and bullfighting festivals held throughout the summer months in various parts of the country, but one of the most famous bullfights in Spain begins with the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. Prior to the main bullfighting event, a young bull is released into the city streets to chase the young bullfighters to the arena. This festival has evolved because so many others wanted to participate that now thousands of people line up in the streets to run away from a stampeding bull. This is no activity for the faint of heart, so only the most adventurous tourists need attempt to participate.

Madrid holds its own Running of the Bulls festival, and throughout the country bullfights and festivals are held, including in Salamanca, Valencia, Madrid and Cordoba.
