The Sagrada Familia: an Art Work
This souvenir from Spain really pops, which consequently serves the rounded shape of the plate quite well. However, what may attract many people is the fact that it looks very much like mosaic which carries with it certain connotations of refinement and culture that one usually hopes to perceive when admiring a good souvenir.
The centerpiece of this plate is the church of the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona's most renown Catholic temple designed by Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was responsible for the design of some of Barcelona's buildings. Gaudi devoted many years to the construction of this church. He didn't had a plan, as it was his style. He designed it as the construction proceeded. In fact, he never saw the church completed as he died while in the process.
The Sagrada Familia in Details
The towers are one of the church's emblematic features. Gaudi planned 18, he only saw one completed. Gaudi was an innovator and he created a kind of arch, called "catenario", which was strong enough to support the heavy structure of the church. The products of his creativity can be appreciated as the traveler walks inside the church as Gaudi thought the interior as a wood, that is, a collection of trees and branches supporting the ceiling. Gaudi even designed the sculptures that can be admired in the church, using a very unique sculpting technique that produced a strange liveliness to the figures. The portal of the Holy Birth and the Passion, as well as the Crypts, has been included into UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. The Sagrada Familia is one of Spain's most popular attractions even more than Prado Museum and the Alhambra of Granada. This travel souvenir makes a great gift to expand on your knowledge of Barcelona and its great architect.
