The Humor in Bull Fighting

Few things are more representative of Spain than bull culture. It is just one of those things that are synonymous with this proud ranching country. However, in the case of this souvenir from Spain, the bull depicted is quite merry and serves a comical function. It is meant to provoke a sense of whimsical fun and general naivete. It is also a great example of the fun loving types of magnets many people like to get for their fridge. The type that just cheers you up in the morning, or gets you in the mood for a tasty meal or snack. Also, if you have little kids around it can help maintain a friendly atmosphere by way of this silly Spanish Toro. In fact, this magnet shows just one of the many ways that Spanish bull fighters play their game.

The Ways of Bull-Fighting

The traditional way is called running of bulls, or corrida de toros. In this scenario, three bullfighters, or matadors, fight two bulls each. They are helped by assistants on horseback and the corrida is divided into three distinct moments resulting in the killing of the bull. Other ways of bull fighting include the Recortes and the Encierros. The Recortes bullfighting does not involve the injury of the bull and it is open to improvisation.

Encierros, which are very popular in the Fiestas of San Fermin, have people running in front of a group of bulls in the streets of a small town. Comic Bullfighting are in fact humorous performances which mock the more ritualistic ways such as the corrida de toros. Even though bullfighting is the most popular public event in Spain, perhaps more than Soccer, it arouses severe critique specially from groups concerned about animals rights. The truth is that this sport, as some people might call it, is there to stay for many more years. This travel souvenir will make a great addition to your collection of fridge magnets from Spain.
