It's a Taste of Heaven: Alsatian Cooking is Something to Treasure

The food in this little corner of heaven (northeastern France) is simply divine, and this delightful Worldwide Gifts fridge magnet is a perfect keepsake to bring back the memories of all the tasty dishes you enjoyed when visiting Alsace. The chalkboard could have been used to list the daily specials in that cozy little bistro where you first tasted that delicious berry liqueur, and those miniature images of pretzels and that big mound of choucroute garnie (sauerkraut) are very representative of the local cuisine, making this keepsake fridge magnet a fantastic souvenir from France.

The food in Alsace is exceptional in its own right, different from traditional French in that Alsatian cuisine does in fact express a particular German influence. This is due in part to its proximity to Germany, and perhaps to the fact that at one time or another in the history of Alsace this region actually did belong to Germany.

Mouthwatering Examples of Delices d'Alsace

This region in France is well known for its rustic fare, with cuisine that is based upon locally grown produce, farm-raised meats and even local wild game. This part of the country, like in many places, uses what they can grow and make for themselves to create outstanding dishes, exemplary wines and flavorful beers. Modern Alsatian chefs may tend to try and emulate contemporary trends in eliminating or reducing the amount of butter and cream used in traditional Alsatian dishes, but for authentic flavor nothing compares to the mouthwatering dishes obtained in the small, family bistros and pastry shops.

In addition to the tasty wines produced in this region, visitors to Alsace are nearly required to sample some of the area's most iconic dishes. While choucroute garnie is considered a national dish in Alsace, the backeoffe is equally delicious and must be tried. Flammekeuche beats pizza any day, and you've never had a fruit tart until you've tried an Alsatian version with fresh rhubarb.
