Some Facts About The Flag Of Ontario
The province of Ontario merged with the Canadian confederation on July 1, 1867. The flag symbolizes a merger between two cultures of British and Canada. The word "ontari", in Huron, means water and "io" means lake, hence, the term Ontario means "beautiful lake". With beautiful lakes like the Great Lakes, rivers like St. Lawrence, Detroit River and Niagara River, along with the world famous Niagara Falls, this huge Canadian maritime province rightfully deserves the tag to be called as "Ontario". The state also got its name from Lake Ontario. The flag has the shield of the coat of arms with a motto in Latin "Ut Incepit Fidelis Sic Permanet", which means "loyal she began, loyal she remains". The North American Vexillological Association conducted a survey in the year 2001, and out of seventy two provincial flags of Canada, this beautiful flag was ranked as 43rd in design.
