Description

A Night View of South Africa's Cape Town is the Theme of This Acrylic Fridge Magnet

South Africa's coastal city of Cape Town is famous around the world for being one of the most beautiful cities in the entire African continent - if not the world. Much of this beauty comes from the city's unique geology; as you can see in this souvenir fridge magnet, behind the city proper (lit up at night) rises the cliffs and escarpments of the flat-topped Table Mountain, which is often dramatically swathed in fog. In addition to this natural blessing, the city is also beautiful because of its rich cultural history. It was founded by the Dutch but was long a principal colony of the British. Its buildings reflect these two masters - with many charming colonial buildings and neighborhoods - but also the traditions, flavors and rhythms of the many people imported to the city from across the vast Dutch and British Empires.

Beyond Cape Town, South Africa Has Incredible Sights to Offer Visitors

Since the fall of Apartheid in the early 1990s, South Africa has opened its arms to the world and been embraced in return: today it is one of the most popular destinations for international tourists on the continent (even before the World Cup). To the north, the cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria pulse with the energy of the African continent leaving behind and looking towards a future. Those seeking "wild" Africa are usually drawn to Kruger National Park on the border with Mozambique, where they can take a safari and see the classic African wildlife in their natural habitat. Even more daring is a visit to the Kalahari Desert in the northwest, where the !Kung and Juhoansi people (formerly called "Bushmen") live. To the east are the lush rolling hills of Natal, the heartland of the old Zulu empire.
