Significance of the Wat Ratchanatda, Bangkok
The Wat Ratchanatda has been a symbolic site for the people of Thailand since 1846. Built on the orders of the King Nangklao (Rama III), the temple is modeled after the Buddhist temples found in India and Srilanka. The famous 'Loha Prasat', commonly known as a multi-tier structure is an architectural masterpiece and is characteristic of the Wat Ratchanatda. It is 36meters high and has 37 metal spirals.
These spirals represent the 37 virtues of entitlement which are the core of the Buddha's teachings and his way of life. Because of its splendid architecture and historical significance, the Wat Ratchanatda had been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
