This station is one of the primary attractions of Tokyo and connects the railway traffic of central Tokyo with suburbs located on its western side. It is not only the busiest station of the city but is also ranked amongst the busiest stations in the entire world. Tourists are also attracted towards the station because of its architecture and also because it is linked with many other tourist destinations.

In JR East, the Shinjuku Train Station is served by Chuo Main Line, Yamanote Line, Chuo Sobu Line, Saikyo Line, Chuo Rapid Line and Shonan-Shinjuku Line. The Odakyu Electric Railway is served by the Odakyu Odawara Line; the Keio Corporation is served by the Keio New Line and Keio Line; the Toei Subway is served by the Toei Oedo Line, Toei Shinjuku Line and the Tokyo Metro is served by the Marunouchi Line.
