The Colourful Coat Of Arms Of The United Kingdom Captured On An Acrylic Fridge Magnet

The lion and the unicorn on the colourful coat of arms of the United Kingdom are perfectly captured on this acrylic fridge magnet from the catalogues of World Wide Gifts. This is the coat of arms of the monarch with slightly variant arms being used by the British government and with the monarch's children and grandchildren each being allocated their own coat of arms. The three lions in the first and third quarters represent England, with the lion in the second quarter representing Scotland, and the harp representing Northern Island. The Scottish coat of arms varies slightly; differences include the swapping of the three lions for the one lion of Scotland, and vice versa. The lion and the unicorn supporting the arms represent England and Scotland; the unicorn is chained as legend stated that a free unicorn was dangerous. The coat of arms also features two mottos. The Royal motto "Dieu et mon droit" means "God and my right", whilst the motto of the Order of the Garter "Honi soit qui mal y pense" means "Shame upon him who thinks evil of it".

Familiar Landmarks Of The United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is a diverse nation featuring several notable landmarks. In the nation's capital, London, Buckingham Palace is the home of the monarch. The building was originally called Buckingham House and was built in 1705 as a residence for the Duke of Buckingham. After enlargement of the building had taken place it became the Royal Palace in 1837 with the succession of Queen Victoria. In Scotland the Balmoral Estate is also an official Royal residence. It was purchased in 1852 by Queen Victoria and the original house was demolished to make way for Balmoral Castle, construction of which was completed in 1856. The British Monarch, who resides at times at both Buckingham Palace and Balmoral, is represented by the United Kingdom coat of arms as captured on our acrylic fridge magnet.
