People immediately identifies the country's coat of arms on the flag, it is on the right of the blue surface. Being part of the British overseas territories, it is natural to have the British flag at the top left. But this has not always been Anguilla's flag. The first flag featured two mermaids and the name of the country but it was widely criticized by the locales. Changes were made but none obtained the complete approval from the authorities and the community. In the late sixties, a new flag was designed featuring the dolphins on a white background and a light blue stripe crossing the lower bottom was added.
